New trial:

Oxford Reference Online: Premium Collection
“Oxford Reference Online: Premium Collection enhances the 100+ books in the Core Collection with an expanding range of key titles in the acclaimed Oxford Companions series plus the Oxford Dictionary of Quotations. This will mean an additional 70,000 entries.”

This trial ends January 30, 2004.

Subject guide updates:

  • Boolean searching

Newly available on CD-ROM is the Thesaurus Linguae Latinae – “the only dictionary to attempt to comprehend the entire Latin language. Its chronological termini reach from the third century B.C. to A.D. 600, including both literary texts and documentary evidence (inscriptions, etc.). TLL is the authoritative starting point for all research involving Latin (which is also the language in which its lexicographic entries for individual words are composed).” The work is loaded on library computer M002.

“The Tony Techko Sports Archives will be unveiled at a reception in the lobby of the Leddy Library, University of Windsor, on Sunday, November 30, at 2 p.m.

“The late Mr. Techko loved sport and education, and both components are being honoured with the opening of this valuable sports history collection,” say Dr. Jim Weese, Dean of the Faculty of Human Kinetics. “Tony was an avid sport historian who worked diligently to preserve and celebrate our local sport history.”

Techko was a founding member of the Windsor/Essex County Sports Hall of Fame and Museum and co-authored a book in 1995, along with Carl Morgan, entitled The Olympians Among Us“.

Researchers on campus should be pleased to learn that Leddy has an update to our Journal Citation Reports (JCR). These CD-ROMs are loaded on Computer M002 on the first floor of the main building of The Leddy Library. JCR presents quantifiable statistical data that provides a systematic, objective way to determine the relative importance of journals within their subject categories. Available are two 2002 editions: the Science Edition covers about 5,700 leading international science journals from the ISI database; the Social Sciences Edition covers about 1,700 leading international social sciences journals from the ISI database.

Also good news to researchers: the Leddy Library now has access to the complete backfiles of Annual Reviews. The mission of Annual Reviews is to provide systematic, periodic examinations of scholarly advances in a number of fields of science through critical authoritative reviews. The collection of 29 Annual Reviews covers a number of subjects in the Biomedical Sciences, Physical Sciences and Social Sciences.

The Leddy Library is pleased to present online access to the ATLA Religion Database. Compiled by the American Theological Library Association, ATLA Religion Database covers Biblical studies, world religions, church history, and religious perspectives on social issues. With coverage dating as far back as 1949, this database contains over one million bibliographic records.

The Leddy Library now has full access to Digital Dissertations. This means library users can read dissertations published from 1997- from around the world from their desktop!

Leddy Library’s Tad Venkateswarlu has been awarded a Governor General’s Meritorious Service Medal. Congratulations, Tad!
